Customer Service Representative/Personal Banker - Valparaiso Branch

Primarily responsible for providing friendly, courteous service to customers in a professional manner and actively cross-sell bank services. Listening to customers’ wants and recognizing what they need or what the bank can do to serve them better.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Pay checks and pay out monies after verifying signatures, ID and customer balances.
  • Receive checks and cash for deposits and loan payments, verify amounts and signatures and process transactions.
  • Open new accounts and modify or close existing accounts (including checking, savings, money market, CDs, HSAs and IRAs) for individuals, businesses, and trusts.
  • Provide direct and personal contact for business customers.
  • Assist customers with Debit Cards and Instant Issue Debit cards – applications, ordering, capturing, disputes with cards and fraud.
  • Provide customer assistance with Electronic Banking products.
  • Daily balance and maintain cash drawer, ATM, coin machine and bank vault.
  • Assist customers with credit card applications.
  • Place check orders.
  • Issue Cashier’s Checks.
  • Redeem US Savings Bonds.
  • Answer phones in a courteous manner.
  • Balance and wrap coin.
  • Assist customers with entry into their Safe Deposit Box.
  • Establish individual goals and participate in departmental goals as they relate to the success of the bank’s Strategic Plan and specific job functions.
  • Participate in the business development efforts of the bank.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Experience: Customer Service and money handling experience is required. Banking/teller experience is preferred. Must have basic computer knowledge, be proficient with Microsoft products and the ability to operate standard office equipment.

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (Rotating Fridays until 5:00 pm)

Rotating Saturdays: 8:00 am – Noon

Loan Officer - Valparaiso Branch

Manage and grow a loan portfolio that meets the bank’s policies and procedures while building strong banking relationships. Maintain loan files, presentations and analysis. Represent the bank in community organizations and events.  Perform all job responsibilities according to the Bank’s policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage a loan portfolio between $25-$35 million, including agricultural, commercial and consumer loans.
  • Monitor loan portfolio to ensure proper risk ratings and early identification of potential problems. If necessary, take appropriate action on past due and problem loans to protect the bank from loss.
  • Maximize bank profitability through appropriate pricing of new loan originations, fee income, and selling of all bank products and services.
  • Maintain complete knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s loan policy and perform all responsibilities.
  • Maintain knowledge of loan related compliance and documentation issues.
  • Participates as a voting member of the loan committee.
  • Develop new business, particularly new loans as it relates to the Bank’s Strategic Plan for loan growth.
  • Negotiate terms, structure loan financing based on risk considerations and present credits for approval to appropriate levels of authority with the bank as required.
  • Required to comply with Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act).
  • Support the bank’s strong relationship banking culture through on-going customer contact, quality customer service and superior product knowledge.
  • Create loan presentations, balance sheets and analysis reviews.
  • Establish and achieve individual goals and departmental goals as they relate to the success of the bank’s Strategic Plan and specific job functions.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business or an ag related field, or equivalent work experience is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of lending experience where individual has gained exposure to and acquired diverse banking, ag and general business knowledge.

Must be proficient with Microsoft products and standard office equipment.  Proficiency with bank software, LaserPro, and Moody’s Analytics software is helpful but may be learned on the job.

Trust Officer - Main Bank Seward

Primarily responsible for the administration of trust accounts. Communicate with clients and provide support and input into investment purchases. Assist with the trust department’s business development and marketing efforts to improve trust department profitability and grow the department.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Establish and achieve individual and departmental goals as they relate to the success of the Trust Department, the bank’s Strategic Plan and specific job functions.
  • Report in Trust Investment Committee (TIC) and TIC Asset Review meetings.
  • Review trust policies, procedures, contracts and services.
  • Perform annual account reviews to include monitoring market movements, legal changes, etc.
  • Review trust accounting reports monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Meet with prospective new Trust Department clients on products and services offered.
  • Meet with existing Trust Department clients regarding investment objectives and selection, legal document interpretation and future planning issues.
  • Meet with legal counsel for new/existing clients on legal document preparation and requested administration issues.
  • Meet with tax preparation personnel for new/existing clients on income and tax related issues relevant to accounts.
  • Meet with investment clients to discuss objectives, risks, needs and investment alternatives prior to researching choices available and making final selection purchases.
  • Review year-end accounting summaries for existing accounts prior to dissemination to tax preparers and other necessary parties.
  • Review, verify and sign appropriate tax returns for existing clients as prepared by the client’s tax preparation personnel.
  • Prepare selected Trust client’s simple income tax returns.
  • Assist clients with Self Directed IRAs.
  • Assist clients and staff with IRAs and HSAs and open accounts.
  • Participate in regulatory exams and audits.
  • Update and research regulatory updates as it pertains to the Trust Department.
  • Oversee Escrow functions – opening accounts, ongoing transactions, and closing accounts.
  • Inspect real estate, prepare reports, handle FSA documents and government payments and contact appraisers.
  • Communicate with tenants relating to the sale of grain, creating leases, insurance, etc.
  • Communicate with trust grantors or beneficiaries, document and act according to plan.
